Badminton: BV Gifhorn’s Hamburg tour falls flat for the time being

After the long compulsory break, they were only allowed to play point games on one weekend – and now they are doomed to endure again: The badminton players of BV Gifhorn, who started the regional league season with two wins two weeks ago, will be not to leave for their Hamburg tour this weekend. Due to the high corona incidence value in the Hanseatic city, the games at SSW Hamburg and Horner TV II have been canceled.

In the northern group of the German Badminton Association, to which the regional league is subject, “there have not yet been any regulations regarding how to deal with the current corona developments and any game postponements against this background,” explains BVG team spokesman Dennis Friedenstab. “So the teams worked out a paper on their own in a telephone exchange and sent it to the relay manager.” After a review by those responsible, it was sent to the regional and league teams as an official recommendation for action this week.

The most important point of the paper is the determination of which corona situation can be played. “The decisive factor here is the current incidence value of the city or the district of the organizing club,” said the BVG captain – that is, the number of reported new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants. If this is over 50, which means that the city or the district is classified as a risk area, there is a clear reason for relocation.

“The city of Hamburg had an incidence value of 58 during the week,” said Friedenstab. In this case, “it was clear to us that we would not drive into a risk area and thus accept a 14-day quarantine, since we all have a job or are studying.”
