Badminton Association starts early, although halls are still closed

The state badminton association NRW wants to start the season shortly after the summer vacation. The problem: some halls will still be closed during this period. PSV Bork and its badminton department are not bothered by it.

“The current relaxation resulting from the current Corona Protection Ordinance of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia from June 15. Surrender to us, encourage us in our assumption that the team season may start regularly in August. Of course, this is still subject to the development of the infection process and any changes on the part of the state government or the municipalities, ”writes the Badminton Association on its homepage.

The season starts on August 22nd. The latest date for game days 1 and 2 should be November 8th. This makes badminton the first indoor sport to start playing again. Other sports take more time at the start of the season. But badminton is a sport without physical contact.

The start of the season after the summer vacation is common

But is that even feasible? After all, the badminton players at PSV Bork, who have been in a syndicate with BC Bergkamen for almost ten years, could only train for a few weeks. Head of department Andreas Buschjost replies: “It is regular that the season starts shortly after the holidays. It has been like that in recent years, regardless of Corona. After two weeks of training it usually starts. ”But he also confirmed that it will be difficult to offer regular training for all teams.

The city of Selm had announced that it would, as an exception, open the halls again at the end of July in 2020 and make them available for sports in the last third of the holiday. The approximately 100-member department would then probably have more time to prepare for point games than without the Corona crisis.

Datteln has no training facility

But there are problems in other cities. In Datteln, reports the “Recklinghäuser Zeitung”, the halls are closed. It should then be a cold start to the season. The association also stated: “If there are new restrictions in the weeks leading up to the start of the game, the entire first half of the season can be canceled.” The association will not postpone the season to October or after the autumn break due to the high organizational hurdles for feasible.
