The transfer window is closed and Arsenal completed the blockbuster signing of Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid on the deadline.

Arsenal took the biggest step on the cut-off date when Thomas Partey joined the club with a £ 45m transfer from Atletico Madrid. Now Stan Kroenke’s role in getting the business done was revealed.
According to the Independent, Arsenal owners KSE approved the signing of the Ghanaian midfielder at the request of Mikel Arteta, who saw Thomas as the perfect addition to his squad this summer.
It is alleged that Kroenke took over Arsenal’s transfer business over the summer transfer window and the losses due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
While clubs across the Premier League have been talking about tightening their belts due to the pandemic, a total of £ 1.27 billion was spent on the transfer window this summer.

On the Ornstein & Chapman podcast, The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed that Arsenal saw the Italian as an alternative to Thomas, but acknowledged the difficulty of keeping him away from Chelsea.
The Blues see Jorginho as a key player this season and were not ready to let him go.
Mikel Arteta prevented the Arsenal defender from being sold to Barcelona

Ainsley Maitland-Niles was linked to an Arsenal exit all summer, but Mikel Arteta played a key role in ensuring the defender wasn’t sold to Barcelona.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano (according to Caught Offside), Catalan club identified Maitland-Niles as a potential target when they were looking for a new right-back.
In the end, Barcelona signed Ajax’s Dutch full-back Sergino Dest to fill the position, but not before inquiring about Maitland-Niles, who appeared to be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium at the time.
However, it is alleged that Arteta blocked the sale of the 23-year-old, whom he sees as an important part of his future plans.
