Arsenal’s achievements in the Premier League have dropped dramatically over the last decade. Maybe this was because Arsene Wenger became manager over time.
Wenger is recognized as one of the best managers Arsenal have ever had. In the Premier League era, Wenger and Arsenal are tough opponents for Manchester United.
During Wenger’s reign, Arsenal had three Premier League trophies, seven FA Cups and seven Community Shields. Before Chelsea and Manchester City, Arsenal managed to destroy MU’s dominance.
However, Arsenal seem unable to maintain competition with MU, Chelsea, and even City after the last win in 2003/2004. At that time Arsenal ended the season unbeaten.
Marked by a move to the Emirate Stadium in 2006, Arsenal’s achievements in the Premier League actually dropped, in contrast to the club’s increasing income.
Even Arsenal have not been able to finish in the top four since becoming runners-up in 2015/2016. After that, Arsenal always finish outside the top four, namely twice in fifth, once in sixth, and the worst last season when they finished eighth.
This then caused Arsenal to be criticized for being only concerned with money rather than achievement. Even Wenger became the target of shooting after that even though he managed to give four FA Cup titles.
According to Wenger, what happened at Arsenal could be because he was there too long. So that Arsenal did not have enough time to regenerate.
“Maybe I was there too long. I don’t know for sure. But I am always committed like when I first coached,” said Wenger to The Times.
“I think I was able to carry the club through difficult times with great success,” he continued.
“People sometimes think you are too old, but they don’t see what you are doing. I devote myself as much as I can to the club.”
“The supporters are not happy anymore. Some of them. You have to understand that, because sometimes people need a change after 22 years,” concluded Arsene Wenger.
