GWS VETERAN will continue in 2021
Shane Mumford will continue his AFL career in a role that the senior says will become increasingly popular with veterans in the latter stages of their season foxfooty.com.au Reporter Tom Morris.
After Sam Jacobs announced his resignation, the Giants want to make sure they have enough jerk shares to get back into the finals in 2021.
Morris said Mumford, who turns 35 mid-way through next season, is likely to play next year with the Giants in a role not dissimilar to Sam Mitchell’s with the West Coast Eagles.
“It’s a lot more appealing because of the soft cap reduction,” said Morris AFL Tonight from Fox Sports News.
“They’re trying to get some young ruckmen in Kieran Briggs and Matt Flynn, but they also want an older head to be included.

“I’m not sure if he plays too many games. But they want him to be a development coach and a little bit insured in the jerk department by this point. “
Morris added that the Giants had dealt with Melbourne-based fringe ruckman Braydon Preuss, who wants to apply for a trade with a third AFL club.
