5 years after Olimpo’s debut in the former National Ascent Tournament

This Friday marks exactly five years since Olimpo’s first match in the former National Ascent Tournament, today called the Argentine Basketball League.

It meant seeing the dream of an institution that had been taking firm steps in the pyramid of Argentine professional basketball come true.

On Saturday, October 11, 2014, the aurinegros had started the campaign in the Federal Tournament, which opted for the promotion to then TNA on Sunday, May 24, 2015, after winning the final of the South Region to Platense by 3 to 1.

The cycle at TNA maintained the mystique and philosophy: sustaining a competitive sporting proposal, quality minutes for the young players of the club, bigger chips to match, and continuity and confidence in the coaching staff headed by Franco Maceratesi.

The season of the premiere in the category featured 26 teams, including Monte Hermoso Basket, which allowed to celebrate some regional challenges.

The debut was as a visitor and with a defeat against Petrolero Argentino (Plaza Huincul) by 78 to 74.

In the first phase, Olimpo finished with 6 victories and 6 defeats that earned him 5th place in the South Division. In the following phase he finished 10th out of a total of 13 teams in the Southern Conference (11 wins, 13 falls).

His participation ended in the first round of the championship playoffs (Reclassification), in which he lost to Huracán de Trelew 3-0 with a court disadvantage.

The team that started the season was made up of Franco Pallotti, José Gutiérrez, Mariano Castets, Leandro Cecchi, Franco Ruesga, Joaquín Godio, Facundo Arens, Lahuel Silva, Valentín Bettiga, Emilio Giménez, Christopher Smith, Cristian Miguel, Agustín Solomón, Juan Ignacio Bellozas, Matías Chaves and Agustín Sánchez. Coach: Franco Maceratesi. Technical assistant: Franco Cucchetti.

Olimpo’s last participation in the category was in the 2016-17 campaign.

Curiously, this edition also started its participation on a day like today: with a victory over Estudiantes de Olavarría 85-73 as a visitor.
