5 freshmen to keep an eye on College Football season

We will hardly see the freshmen leave High School and go directly to the field, play College Football matches, however, the class of freshmen has good names to keep an eye on in 2020.

We still don’t know how things will look for this year’s season, due to the new coronavirus, which continues to infect millions of people worldwide. At first, college football remains on schedule.

So the The Playoffs brings some freshman names that may soon be successful in the NCAA.

Remembering that: 1. Opinions here are based on the author’s analysis; 2. The order below does not necessarily mean that they will be big stars and go to the NFL, as each athlete develops and evolves in his time.

Bryan Bresee – defensive tackle/Damascus Hornets HS
Signed with: Clemson

Isaiah Simmons will likely be one of the first choices of the 2020 Draft, however, Dabo Swinney will have no worries to replace this loss. Clemson convinced High School’s best defensive prospect, Bryan Bresee, to join the best college defense of 2019.

Bresee is extremely athletic and in all his games and highlights, he looked like an adult playing among children. In Damascus, he was versatile, lining up as a defensive tackle, defensive end and also as an offensive tackle, due to his size and strength. Incredibly, he also played some plays as running back.

Bryan only needs to improve his blast and in some moves, he seems “out of sorts”, but that will certainly be corrected by Tigers defense coordinator Brent Venables.

Comparisons: J.J. Watt

Julian Fleming – wide receiver/Southern Columbia Area Tigers HS
Signed with: Ohio State

Ohio State is home to successful wide receivers, such as Santonio Holmes, Cris Carter, Michael Thomas, among others. And, it is not for less that, they will have one of the most “hypados” of the last years. Yes, we are talking about Julian Fleming.

Fleming served for four years at High School and in all of them, he received for more than 700 yards and has not scored less than 10 touchdowns in his career. In 2017-18, he reached 1,462 yards and 20 TDs. He is fast, has an exceptional first shot, achieves a great separation and we will hardly see cornerbacks doing well on him.

Julian can start battling for his place from his first year, as KJ Hill is eligible for the next Draft.

Comparation: Michael thomas

Bryce Young – quarterback/Mater Dei Monarchs
Signed with: Alabama

Mac Jones and Taulia Tagovailoa – Tua Tagovailoa’s younger brother – are expected to give Nick Saban a headache for the quarterback position of Crimson Tide next season, but in 2021, another boy is expected to request a ticket in the position, coming directly from California.

Bryce Young passed over 4,000 yards last season at Mater Dei, throwing 58 touchdowns. These numbers are better than those of Taulia and Mac Jones in their respective high school years, bringing a huge responsibility to Young.

Bryce is fast and has impeccable leg work, especially in situations where the pocket closes. Some decision making on the pitch is questionable, because on many occasions, he holds the ball a lot and ends up being sacked, but he will have time to evolve.

Comparation: Kyler Murray

Justin Flowe – inside linebacker/Upland Highlanders
Signed with: Oregon

Andy Avalos, defensive coordinator for Oregon Ducks, must have been very happy when he learned that Justin Flowe chose to wear yellow and green in his college career. They got a ‘monster’ from inside linebacker.

According to the website MaxPreps, which analyzes players from HS, Flowe was considered one of the best of the decade in his position. He ended his high school career with 434 tackles, of which, 48 for losing yards and 24 sacks.

The best thing we see in his game, in addition to his extraordinary speed, playing on some occasions even running back, is his aggressiveness when arriving at QB. He knows what he does on the pitch and even by his personality, he can become a leader on the pitch.

Comparation: Reuben Foster

Arik Gilbert – tight end/ Marietta Blue Devils
Signed with: LSU

There are several names that we can consider here, mainly due to the quality with which HS prepares athletes. However, I couldn’t help talking about recruit number 1 in the tight end position, Arik Gilbert.

Gilbert will have free passage to compete for the position in his first year at LSU, mainly because he does not need to ‘fight’ with Thaddeus Moss and Stephen Sullivan, who are in the 2020 Draft.

Arik is excellent at executing routes, has an absurd speed and we could even think that he is a receiver, when analyzing his videos.

In addition, he shows a lot of strength and good hand work, which every head coach loves to see in his tight ends. The current NCAA champion thanks you.

Comparation: O. J. Howard
