The criticism came to Unai Emery. The Spanish coach is said to be incompetent to handle the stars in Paris St. Germain.
Emery was PSG coach for two years between 2016-2018. In the Emery era, Les Parisiens won seven domestic trophies, including one Ligue 1 title. Whereas in the Champions League, PSG always ran aground in the last 16.
After finishing at PSG, Unai Emery joined Arsenal. This time his coaching period was shorter, only a year and a half. Emery left North London in November last year before returning to LaLiga with Villarreal.
Meanwhile PSG appointed Thomas Tuchel to replace Emery. In his second season at the Stade de France, Tuchel successfully led Les Parisiens to the Champions League final for the first time in the club’s history.
The agent of former PSG player Thiago Silva has doubts about Emery’s prowess. Paulo Tonietto said his client could have won the Champions League medal if PSG had not been coached by Emery.
“PSG lost two years when they appointed him,” Tonietto told L’Equippe. “The problem with him is that he has difficulty managing star players.”
“In Paris it was the players who resolved the situation after Neymar and Cavani fell out on the pitch over a penalty. When he went to Arsenal, the player he got angry with was Mesut Oezil.”
“He is a coach who is suitable for playing in the Europa League, not the Champions League. PSG is too big for him. He is a very bad coach for PSG.”
“If there was a coach of another caliber during those two years, PSG would have won the Champions League,” said Tonietto about Unai Emery at PSG.
