US Open winner Naomi Osaka, injured, gives up Roland-Garros

The Japanese tennis champion said Friday forfeit Roland Garros due to a thigh injury.

The Japanese Naomi Osaka, winner of the last US Open tennis, announced Thursday, September 17, her withdrawal from Roland-Garros due to a persistent injury to a thigh.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play at Roland Garros this year. My thigh still hurts and I won’t have time to prepare for the clay,” she wrote on her Twitter account.

The Grand Slam tournament on clay, postponed from spring to fall due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will be held from September 21 to October 11 in Paris.
