Transfer news LIVE: Chelsea exodus, Upamecano to Man Utd, Arsenal deal, Leeds close

Man Utd eye Upamecano next summer

Manchester United are preparing to sign Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig next year.

The defender is highly regarded and admired at Old Trafford, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer putting the young Frenchman on his wish list.

A transfer before the October 5 deadline, however, is unlikely after he signs a new deal in Germany.

In July, the 21-year-old signed a contract extension with RB Leipzig.

If United were to move now, Upamecano would cost a significant amount and United are reluctant to spend a lot as they continue chasing £ 108 million Jadon Sancho in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, Upamecano, which is followed by a number of top European clubs, will be available for much less next year.

A £ 38 million release clause in his contract will go into effect in 2021, and would be a much cheaper figure for the Red Devils.

The Daily Mail says United are subsequently preparing for a move next summer.
