Liverpool announced on Tuesday the positive coronavirus test of their midfielder, Thiago Alcantara (29). The Spanish midfielder placed himself in isolation after missing the victory against Arsenal (3-1) on Monday. According to the club, he has shown mild symptoms of the virus but will miss the League Cup game against Arsenal on Thursday and then the trip to Aston Villa on Sunday (8:15 p.m., live on RMC Sport 1), just before the international truce.
Tested before the Mersey derby
His presence with Spain next week in the new phase of the Nations League matches is pending. In the meantime, he will undergo a new test to determine if he is fit to resume competition, including taking part in the Merseyside derby against Evreton on October 17.
Jürgen Klopp will therefore have to deal with this absence for the next two games. He has already done it brilliantly on Monday against Arsenal by aligning Naby Keita in the midfield after having recorded the packages of Jordan Henderson and Thiago.
The latter joined the club from the North of England this summer against 20 million euros from Bayern Munich where he only had one year of contract left. The former FC Barcelona player made his debut with the Reds in the victory over Chelsea (0-2) on Matchday 2 of the Premier League.
