The arena of the Olympic Center was solemnly opened in Rēzekne

Residents were invited to gather at the main entrance of the Olympic Center Arena at the ceremonial speeches and the ribbon-cutting. After the official opening, the event continued in the ice hall, where a symbolic hockey match took place, performances by figure skaters and musicians were observed. Event manager Māris Grigalis took care of the coordination of the event and entertaining those present.

Due to Covid-19 infection control measures, the number of seats in the hockey hall during performances was limited.

In parallel with the opening events, the Ghetto Football and Ghetto Basket tournaments took place throughout the day in the Olympic Center car park, with registration starting at 11.30.

It was also possible to attend gymnastics master classes in the aerobics hall under the guidance of physiotherapist and fitness trainer Rolands Admidiņš. Masterclasses are available to everyone, regardless of gender, age and physical fitness. Participants were invited to bring sportswear and change shoes.

Those interested were able to go on excursions around the newly built sports building in groups of 15 people. In addition, it was possible to enjoy free skating. For the convenience of visitors, skating machines “bears” were available, as well as skates.

The organizers of the event called on the residents to be responsible and to observe the restrictions related to Covid-19, without crowding and keeping their distance.

It has already been reported that the area of ​​the sports arena will be almost 11,000 square meters. A multifunctional gym with grandstands for 727 spectators, an ice arena with 568 seats, a gym and gym, a sports equipment store, changing rooms for athletes, technical and auxiliary rooms will be built in the new building.

The project envisages landscaping of approximately 10,000 square meters with the creation of walking trails and recreation areas, as well as construction of roads and squares of 16,000 square meters with an area of ​​232 parking lots, five bus parking lots and a bicycle shed at the entrance to the building.

Together with the already built football field, sports hotel and open swimming pool, the new building will form one of the most modern sports complexes in Latgale.

The total costs related to the construction of the sports arena of the Olympic Center “Rēzekne” are 17.17 million euros.
