Sources – Cowboys to put LB Sean Lee in injured reserve on Sunday

FRISCO, Texas – Veteran linebacker Sean Lee will be placed on injury reserve for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday due to a pelvic problem that kept him out of the field during training camp, sources told ESPN .

Lee suffered an injury at the end of last season and the Cowboys want to watch out for his return.

To be eligible to play this season, Lee had to spend a day on the 53-man roster, which was announced on Saturday. Going to the injured reserve, Lee will miss the first four games.

The Cowboys hit the 53-man limit on Saturday with 27 strokes, but that’s hardly their final lineup for next season’s opener against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Cowboys are likely to sign veteran linebacker Justin March and cornerback CJ Goodwin on Sunday, which means they will have another injured reserve player with the right to return after the first three games.

Right tackle La’el Collins is struggling with a hip problem that kept him from leaving the field this weekend of training and he didn’t train much at the start of training camp. Cornerback Jourdan Lewis did not practice due to a high left ankle sprain suffered on August 20. Wide receiver Ventell Bryant injured his knee at AT&T Stadium on August 30 and linebacker Luke Gifford struggled with a hamstring problem.

If Collins, who had his best season of 2019, is placed in IR, it would be a big blow to the offensive line early in the season. The Cowboys would go with veteran Cameron Erving in the right tackle, but late last week Brandon Knight injured his ankle in practice. Rookie tackle Terence Steele, who saw first-team shots early in camp while Collins and Erving were out, made the list as an undrafted free agent.

The Cowboys are also looking to add to the safety point, and veteran Brandon Carr began COVID-19 protocols on Friday while being tested by the club. The Cowboys released Ha Ha Clinton-Dix on Thursday and were quick to say they would like to add some safety aid.

Carr, who played cornerback for the Cowboys from 2012 to 2016, saw 173 shots of safe action last season with the Baltimore Ravens.
