Roland-Garros: despite a match point, Jérémy Chardy tilts in the first round – Roland-Garros (H)

It’s a sad Sunday for Jérémy Chardy. Le Pau, who was playing his fiftieth Grand Slam tournament there, left the Suzanne-Lenglen court with a very cruel defeat. While the French had two sets in advance and had a match point in the tie-break of the third, he finally lost in the first round of Roland-Garros (3-6, 4-6, 7-6 [6], 6-4, 10-8), against the Austrian Jurij Rodionov, resulting from the qualifications.

Chardy at one point of the match

Obviously he will ruminate on this defeat for a moment. For a long time, Chardy was a cut above. Not necessarily great, in playing conditions made very random by the wind, but with a tad more daring and guts, the French even put himself in a position to conclude cleanly on his faceoff at 5-4 in the third handle. He let the opportunity pass, however, before allowing himself a match point in the decisive game at 6-5, but he poorly adjusted his forehand passing.

Relaunched, the Austrian took advantage of the momentum, glued together, while Chardy tensed. Less in legs, the French then entered into resistance. Rodionov was going to have to serve three times for the game before he managed to finish.

Chardy struggled, clung to the last branch, even saving six match points, before pulling out a forehand on the seventh and leaving Porte d’Auteuil in the first round, like last year.
