Racing point drop appeal against F1 brake duct penalty

Racing Point has appealed against a fine of 400,000 euros and a penalty of 15 points for copying the brake lines from Mercedes 2019, the Formula 1 team announced on Sunday.

Renault, who made the original protest, had already withdrawn its appeal – only Ferrari had taken action.

In a statement before the Italian Grand Prix, Racing Point welcomed the “urgently needed clarification of the rules for listed and unlisted parts” by the ruling FIA.

The team also found that the stewards and all parties involved in the appeal process recognized a lack of clarity in the rules and there was no deliberate intention to break them.

“After clarifying the regulatory concerns, we decided to withdraw our appeal in the interests of the sport,” added the team.

Racing Point said the matter had been a distraction and looks forward to focusing on racing with owner Lawrence’s son, Canadian Lance Stroll, and Sergio Perez of Mexico.

The team, whose 2020 car is a close copy of last year’s Mercedes, was allowed to continue competing without having to redesign the faulty parts.
