Seaver was the pitcher of the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox and Boston White Sox, but left the biggest mark in the Mets. He led the team to his first championship title, collected a number of individual awards during his 20-year career in the MLB Overseas League, and was selected for the Star Game twelve times.

In 1992, a popular player nicknamed Fantastic Tom after a cartoon character was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Mets named the street leading to their stadium after him last year. “He was simply the biggest player in the history of the Mets and one of the best in baseball history,” said club owner Fred Wilpon.

Seaver spent the last years of his life in California, where he owned a vineyard and made wine.
