No deadline for Father’s Day, but the father-son duo will appreciate the US Open experience

MAMARONECK, NY – Although the postponement of this year’s US Open has moved the championship from the traditional end of Father’s Day in June to September, it will still be a special week for at least one parent-child combination.

Todd Thompson has caddied his son, Davis, dozens of times in his career, including the US Amateurs and the Jones Cup, but he appreciated being able to enter the Winged Foot this week.

“When all the rules were published, we decided that I would come here with him so that I could also watch,” Todd Thompson said. “Only three people – caddy, trainer and coach – are allowed on site”.

Although Todd Thompson had to take a break from caddy work, there will be some moonlight for the RSM Classic tournament director.

“The experience of being here and seeing how things are doing with COVID-19 will be good for me too,” Thompson said.

Davis Thompson, a junior at the University of Georgia, qualified for the US Open via the World Amateur Rankings and will make his third start on the PGA Tour. He ranked 23rd at last year’s RSM Classic.
