Microsoft spent years asking Football Manager to come to Xbox

Sports Interactive subtly dropped the news earlier this week that the hugely popular PC sports simulator, Football Manager, would return to Xbox consoles for the first time in more than a decade in December.

And according to Sports Interactive director Miles Jacobson, the reason for this is because Microsoft has been very persistent in trying to bring the series back to the Xbox for years.

See how Jacobson explained this on Twitter when addressing the lack of a PS4 or PS5 version:

The Xbox version of Football Manager 2021 will be based on the game’s “Touch” edition, presenting the overall experience in a more streamlined and accessible format, which Jacobson says is a collaborative decision between the developer and Microsoft due to “how people play games in the Xbox ecosystem. “
