Michy Batshuayi returns on loan from Chelsea | back to Crystal Palace football news

Michy Batshuayi has signed Crystal Palace on loan from Chelsea for a season after signing a one-year contract extension with Stamford Bridge.

Batshuayi’s previous contract was set to expire next summer, but he will now remain a Chelsea player until 2022.

The Belgian international returns to Palace on loan after scoring six goals in four games for the Eagles in 13 games in 2019.

“I feel at home now so it’s good. But I have to have a good season here to work a lot with my team-mates and I want to do my best here,” Batshuayi told Crystal Palace website.

“It’s not my first time here. I know my teammates, I know the gaffer, I know how the club works here. For me it’s the best decision.

“I’m happy, the coach is happy, my team-mates are happy. Let’s get to work.”

Batshuayi’s arrival increases Roy Hodgson’s attacking options ahead of Palace’s opening game against Southampton on Saturday.

“I am very happy that we loaned Michy for a season,” added Hodgson.

“He made a huge impact on the club in his last loan period, if only five months. He showed a goal threat that we urgently needed at the time and we are confident that he will produce again.

“As a player who helps convert our chances into goals, Michy will be another valuable addition to the two new signings we made this summer.

“It’s another boost for players and fans and I’m sure everyone with me will welcome Michy.”

Batshuayi fell on the fourth choice in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge – behind Timo Werner, Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham.

After a substitute game against Bournemouth on February 29, he did not play a single minute under Frank Lampard.

After Palace signing Batshuayi, he is unable to loan Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher as Premier League rules prohibit a club from loaning out more than one player from another club in the same transfer window.

Palace plan Boga offers if Zaha goes

Palace places Sassuolo striker Jeremie Boga to replace Wilfried Zaha.

Zaha is determined to leave Selhurst Park during the current transfer window and Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Monaco have all shown interest in the 27-year-old.

If Zaha grants his wish and leaves Palace, Roy Hodgson’s side will target Boga – but likely face stiff competition for the Ivory Coast international.

Napoli has already offered Boga £ 27m, while Rennes made an offer of £ 20m earlier this week. Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen will also take part in the tender. Sassuolo is asking for more than £ 30 million.
