Grant on Henderson’s impact

Dean Henderson’s return from his loan spell at Sheffield United created an extra dimension in Manchester United’s goalkeeping department.

That’s according to reserve goalkeeper Lee Grant, who came in as Henderson’s second-half substitute in the 1-0 friendly loss to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Henderson was one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers last season and has committed to United after shining with the Blades. He gave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the decision to replace his number 1 goalkeeper, with David de Gea the current holder.

This is what Grant told MUTV after the Villa match:

“It was great, a really nice atmosphere within the group.

“The goalkeeper department is no different from any other department. We are all heading in the right direction, striving to be fit and ready, and we can’t wait for next weekend to arrive.

“I guess for Dean, it gives him a lot of self-confidence. That self-confidence is key, especially at a young age.

“The next test for him is obviously ahead of him. He’s now entrusted his future to the football team, which is wonderful news, so that’s great for the department: me, Dean, Sergio, David, Nathan Bishop … that’s a long list. We all want to play and do well for the football team and this can only improve the atmosphere in the group. “
