Man Utd tries to “hijack” Liverpool’s move for Thiago, but a wage problem emerges

Manchester United’s attempt to hijack Liverpool’s move for Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara may have hit a snag with the midfielder’s salaries too high for the Red Devils.

Thiago was strongly linked to moving to Anfield with the Premier League champions who are passionate about the Spanish.

United are also believed to be impatient as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attempts to strengthen his squad this summer.

Although reports from Norway suggest that although there has been communication about a move, Thiago’s wage demands are too high.

Thiago is available for just € 30m this summer, having played a key role in Bayern’s treble season.

Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed that Thiago will likely leave the Champions League winners this summer.

He said: “It looks like he will leave us. It was important for him to show that he can play well in important matches. When it comes to that, it’s a finish that hurts a little.

“I expect an offer for him in the next few days.”

Former Bayern and Manchester United star Owen Hargreaves believes Thiago would fit one of the Premier League giants.

“They (Liverpool) don’t have it (a player like him). In his day, he is one of the top five midfielders in the world, ”Hargreaves said.

“I think everyone needs him. Man United, Arsenal, anyone would take it.

“He is one of those players, if you play with him, you will be amazed at how good he is.

United have yet to sign during the transfer window, although they are believed to be close to closing a deal for Ajax star Donny Van de Beek.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have brought in Kostas Tsimikas although Jurgen Klopp shouldn’t be too busy on the market.
