Liverpool beat Leeds at the weekend with Mohamed Salah scoring three goals. How good is it and is it still underrated?

Salah has been consistently exceptional since arriving on Merseyside – I’d be hard pressed to see how he could be underestimated. If anything, he is a victim of his own success. His first season at Liverpool was so extraordinary that he still sticks to those standards – which can be difficult to repeat every single season.

Of course, he’s had droughts and hard times in recent years, but that’s to be expected. His overall level has remained pretty consistent and the records he continues to break are proof of that.

Defensively, it was a little less promising for Liverpool. Is that a problem and what can Jürgen Klopp do about it?

It’s definitely a problem that we’re conceding more goals. The conversations we’ve had over the past two seasons have focused on how solid we were in the background. We used to be able to frustrate teams and often they hesitated to move forward out of fear of our quick transition game and clinical attack.

Weaknesses in defense are gradually revealed and unusual mistakes by key players do not help. The rivals will have seen how easy it was for Leeds to break our backline. They were goals that you wouldn’t expect to be conceded by this Liverpool team. The more teams think they enjoy attacking, the more worrying it is for us.

I think the good thing is how strong our attack is and that when opponents go head to toe with this team it only creates more chances and you would imagine them outdoing anyone.

Really, it should be an issue that can be fixed on the training ground. After all, this is the same defense that was previously called arguably the best in the league – all they have to do is find that rhythm and stability.

Rhian Brewster wasn’t even on the bench for the game. Does that indicate a possible exit for him and would that be the right call?

I’m sure there is no shortage of clubs interested in talent like Rhian Brewster, be it a loan or a permanent move. He was impressed when he was in Swansea last season and it’s no secret how highly rated he is by everyone at the club.

His problem is that he is fighting for a place in one of the best and most consistent front threesomes in the world, which even someone like Jadon Sancho can find difficult to break into while Salah, Mane and Firmino are still in the club.

A permanent move can be a good option, especially if a buyback clause is built into the deal. For the player, a Premier League club would probably be the next step in their development, but for anyone at this stage in their career having the minutes and the experience on the pitch is crucial – so it should be the right step.

Frank Lampard was “amused” by Klopp’s criticism of his spending that week. Lampard called him “arrogant” a few weeks ago. Are we facing a new rivalry (again)?

Klopp wasn’t necessarily wrong with his comments: Chelsea have spent a lot, but their financial situation and the way they are run are fundamentally different from that of the FSG in Liverpool.

Lampard hasn’t misrepresented the price of Klopp’s team either – with players like Van Dijk, Alisson and Fabinho joining the ranks in recent years. The difference is that Chelsea spent a lot this summer while we didn’t, and I think that’s what the Reds boss was trying to achieve.

I don’t think it was a blow to Chelsea, but it’s even clearer that they are able to spend money in these turbulent times – while we need to be more careful and thoughtful.

Klopp doesn’t seem like the manager who has a bitter rivalry to me. only respectful, competitive rivalries – like with Pep Guardiola. The media definitely seems to be pushing this; The managers only answer the questions asked.

With just one signature, it was another quiet summer for Liverpool. I think we would have seen a few more faces if a global pandemic hadn’t turned the world upside down and caused a significant loss of revenue for football clubs across the country.

It’s no secret how much we’ve lost to closed-door games and the financial success we’ve suffered since March. Timo Werner would probably be in red instead of blue if things went on normally.
