Is Joan Laporta Really Back Forward as a Barcelona Presidential Candidate?

Barcelona

Joan Laporta is reportedly running for the presidency of Barcelona again next year. The 58-year-old will compete with three other candidates.

Reported AS, Laporta will run for the Barcelona presidential election in March 2021. This was confirmed by the Que T’hi Jugues program on Wednesday (9/9/2020) local time.

Laporta himself is not a stranger to Barcelona. The Catalan native was president of Barcelona from 2003-2010, during which the Blaugrana achieved much success.

Among them getting Ronaldinho and launching Lionel Messi to coaches like Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardiola, who won many prestigious trophies.

This news is not surprising. Because some time ago, Laporta himself had expressed his desire to return to become a candidate for Barcelona president.

If so, Laporta will compete with three other candidates. They are Victor Font, Jordi Farre, and Lluis Fernandez Ala.

Currently, the leadership in Barcelona is in the spotlight. Josep Maria Bartomeu, the club’s current president, is considered to have failed to bring change to Barcelona’s body.

The 2019/2020 season is considered to be the culmination of Bartomeu’s failure. After the club ended the season without a trophy, the club’s internal problems were also rocked by various problems, ranging from noise from high-ranking officials to being threatened with being left by Lionel Messi, the club’s top scorer in history.

In his interview, Messi himself accused Bartomeu of being a disaster at the club. Apart from breaking his promise about Messi leaving at any time, Bartomeu is also said to have not made a convincing project for the club.
