Egan Bernal: “I left because of my health”

Egan Bernal has responded on social media to his withdrawal in the Tour de France. The defending champion did not start on Wednesday in the mountain stage to the Col de la Loze. “The only and best option I had was to listen to my body. Because of my health, I therefore left the Tour, despite number 1 ”, writes Bernal, who does not comment on the physical discomforts he has.
“It may sound strange, but I have enjoyed every kilometer on my bike,” said the Colombian leader of INEOS Grenadiers. “However painful those kilometers were. I enjoyed doing it, because it is my job and my passion. ”
“I’ve pushed my body to the limit, but there comes a point where my body has told me enough,” says Bernal, who fell through the ice on the mountain ride to the Grand Colombier. After the sixteenth stage, in which he crossed the finish line with sprinters, he decided to get off. “This is life and this is cycling.”
