Tennis: Djokovic to quarter finals in Rome

6.21 pm: Novak Djokovic is in the quarter finals of the tennis tournament in Rome. The Serbian number 1 in the world defeated his compatriot Filip Krajinovic on Friday 7-6, (7) 6-3.

In the quarterfinals, Djokovic meets the Italian Lorenzo Musetti or the German Dominik Köpfer. Djokovic is preparing for Roland Garros, which starts in ten days. He was recently disqualified at the US Open when he hit a linesman while hitting a ball.

Djokovic won Roland Garros once, in 2016. In Paris, the tennis player is on the hunt for his eighteenth overall victory in a grand slam tournament.

Cycling: Winning Ulissi takes leader’s jersey in Luxembourg

4.34 pm: Italian Diego Ulissi has won the fourth stage in the Tour de Luxembourg. The UAE Team Emirates rider won the 201 kilometer stage from Rodange to Differdange in a four-rider sprint and also took over the leader’s jersey.

After a stage with six climbs, Ulissi was ahead of the Belgian Aimé De Gendt, the Norwegian Daniel Hoelgaard and the Belgian Tim Wellens. The Italian, who had also won the first stage, took over the leader’s jersey from Romanian rider Eduard-Michael Grosu. Ulissi is 17 seconds ahead of De Gendt and 19 seconds ahead of Hoelgaard.

Saturday is the last stage between Mersch and Luxembourg over 177 kilometers.

Autosport: Racing Team Netherlands third time in qualifying 24 hours of Le Mans

12.15 pm: Racing Team Netherlands, the only team from our country to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, will start the famous race in the LMP2 class in third place. During the so-called Hyperpole on Friday morning, Nyck de Vries recorded the third fastest time on behalf of the team. Only former Formula 1 drivers Paul di Resta (United Autosports) and Jean-Eric Vergne (G-Drive Racing) were faster in that category than the Formula E driver, who ended up in the gravel pit during his first run.

Beach volleyball: European Championship beach volleyball in Latvia resumes after rain showers

12.15 pm: After a day full of downpours and cancellations, the European Beach Volleyball Championships have resumed in the Latvian resort of Jurmala. All Dutch teams come into action on Friday.

On Thursday, all games in Jurmala, west of the capital Riga, were canceled due to heavy rain. The stadium, which stands on the beach on the Gulf of Riga, was flooded. The field there is still unplayable, so the organization is moving to outdoor fields near a sports hall in the city of Jurmala.

Christiaan Varenhorst and Steven van de Velde won on Friday morning in three sets against their German opponents Julius Thole and Clemens Wickler, who took silver at the last World Cup. Tennis: Roland Garros allows only 5000 people to the tennis park

09.19 am: Roland Garros allows only 5000 people to enter the park every day during the tournament. Initially, 11,500 people would be welcome every day at the complex of the grand slam tournament in Paris.

“The health situation in the Ile-de-France region has led the Parisian authorities to limit the number of spectators at Roland Garros to 5000 per day over the entire 12-hectare site,” the French tennis association said in a statement.

Last year, 520,000 spectators came to the tournament, spread over two weeks. That was a record.

Roland Garros starts on Sunday, September 27.

Baseball: Yankees break with five home runs in an inning club record

08.51 am: The New York Yankees baseball-players broke a club record by hitting five homeruns in an inning. The homeruns contributed to a 10-7 victory over Toronto Blue Jays.

The Yankees are only the seventh team ever in Major League Baseball to hit five homeruns in the same inning. Washington Nationals did it three years ago, with New York Giants (1939), Philadelphia Phillies (1949), San Francisco Giants (1961), Minnesota Twins (1966) and Milwaukee Brewers (2006) already ahead of the Nationals.

“That was sensational. Until the conscious inning, we were evenly matched and suddenly everyone started hitting very well, ”said Yankees manager Aaron Boone afterwards.

Golf: Thomas takes the lead at US Open

8.20 am: American golfer Justin Thomas has taken the lead at the US Open. Just 27-year-old Thomas went around 65 strokes on opening day at New York’s Winged Foot Golf Club, 5 strokes below the course average.

Thomas recorded six birdies and only one bogey. He is ahead of his fellow countrymen Patrick Reed and Matthew Wolff and the Belgian Thomas Pieters.

Title favorite Dustin Johnson, the 2016 winner, did not start the US Open well and is already at 73 tricks. Johnson needed two more strokes than the course average on the fourth hole, a double bogey. On the second day, Johnson, who is tied for 71st, must do his best to make the cut. Johnson shares 71st place with Tiger Woods.

Basketball: Miami Heat 2-0 Lead in Conference Finals
