Chelsea gave Dean Henderson a shot as Manchester United made the transfer decision

Chelsea received a blow in hopes of recruiting Dean Henderson from Manchester United.

The Blues are actively looking to sign a new goalkeeper to compete with Kepa Arrizabalaga next season.

Chelsea saw an offer for Rennes shooter Edouard Mendy rejected but is expected to increase the offer after a move for Henderson was ruled out.

Jan Oblak and Mike Maignan have also been linked alongside Henderson, but Henderson will not move to Stamford Bridge.

Henderson signed a new five-year deal at Old Trafford last week, but any hope that Chelsea will now get the goalkeeper on loan seems to have vanished.

The MEN Henderson relationship has agreed to spend the 2020-21 season with his sponsor club and will go “head to head” with De Gea in goal.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Sheffield United and his form has gained international recognition.

Despite hopes of ousting Jordan Pickford from England’s number one jersey, Henderson was not sure he would start the season before De Gea for next season.

However, both sides have agreed that he will remain to fight with De Gea after signing his £ 120,000 contract last week.

It also means Sergio Romero is set to leave the club this summer after dropping to third pick behind Henderson.

Chelsea could see the 33-year-old as a perfect signing to compete with Arrizzabalaga, though it remains to be seen whether the Argentine will be allowed to leave to join a direct rival.
