BYOB no longer on Austin Municipal Golf Courses

Starting October 1st, you will no longer be able to bring external alcohol to vegetables.

AUSTIN, Texas – Keep your beers in the fridge if you plan on going to a municipal golf course in Austin.

Beginning October 1, the Parks and Recreation Department will begin phasing out its BYOB policy in places like Butler Pitch & Putt, Lions Golf Course, and others.

City leaders said that with changes in state rules and insurers providing coverage, it’s simply too much of a liability.

Before you get too “t-shirt”, listen! There’s still a chance you could open some cold when the time comes, because Council has said it’s working on a deal that would require dealers to sell alcohol.

The announcement on the city’s website states:

“The PARD Golf Division of the City of Austin will eliminate the existing Bring Your Own Booze (BYOB) policy in favor of transitioning liability to our licensed operators. This transition will require operators to obtain permits required by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC). as well as any necessary insurance as outlined by the city of Austin guidelines. Elimination of the BYOB policy will not prohibit a user from bringing water or food to a city-operated golf course. The ban will be limited to “no outside alcohol. “This new policy will take effect on October 1 and will extend to all city-operated golf courses: Lions, Clay / Kizer, Morris Williams, Hancock, Butler Pitch & Putt and the Round Rock Golf Driving Range.
