Cascady, 55, was the finalist for the award in 2018. Last season, under his leadership, the Bruins made it to the Stanley Cup final, where they lost the St. Louis Blues in seven games.

The Bruins’ balance in the 2019/2020 NHL Main Event was 44-14 with a further 12 losses in overtime and post-match throws, earning the NHL best points of 100 points, but after a break in Covid-19 in March and a resumption of the season with the seeding games in August in Boston the club settled for only the fourth number before the Stanley Cup.

“Bears” overcame Caroline’s “Hurricanes” barrier in the first round, but in the next round, Lightning hit Tampa Bay.

The Boston team in the main event allowed opponents to score the fewest goals of all NHL clubs, scoring just 167 discs or 2.39 goals per game. The Bruins ranked second after the Edmonton Oilers in the majority of goals scored (25.2%) and in third place in the NHL, playing in the minority, defending their goals 84.3%.

Other finalists and contenders for the award were John Tortorella, coach of Columbus “Blue Jackets”, represented by Latvian goalkeepers Elvis Merzlikkin and Matiss Kivleniek, and Alain Vigno, head of the Flyers of Philadelphia.
