Bayer offensive leader Volands to play for French club Monaco

Monaco announced the deal on Wednesday, saying Voland had arrived in France for 11 million euros. The attacker will be entitled to various bonuses if certain points of the contract are fulfilled.

The 28-year-old Volands has played 148 games in the Bayer team in the previous four seasons, with 50 goals and 32 assists.

The footballer has not played in a career outside Germany before.

“He is a versatile striker who can play both at the peak and as a second or winger,” explains Paul Michel, Monaco’s sports director. “Volands is a player who works hard on the pitch, but his work is most clearly reflected in the statistics.”

Significantly, the Monaco team is led by former Bayern Munich coach Niko Kovach.

It was already known that the talented Kay Havercs, who would join London’s Chelsea in the coming days, would not remain in the ranks of the Leverkusen unit.

The transaction is estimated to amount to EUR 100 million.
