Zarco starts from pits in upcoming MotoGP race as punishment for heavy crash | NOW

MotoGP driver Johann Zarco will start on Sunday from the pit lane at the Grand Prix of Styria. The Ducati rider has to pay for his part in last weekend’s fierce crash in Austria.

Zarco ran into Franco Morbidelli of Yamaha on lap ninth of the race at the Red Bull Ring, after which both drivers fell hard. Valentino Rossi and Maverick Viñales were almost hit by the flying engines.

Both Zarco and Morbidelli had to answer to the stewards on Thursday at the circuit in Austria, who decided on Friday morning to punish the Frenchman. Morbidelli is not blamed.

“I could really explain to the stewards what I was doing when I wanted to overtake Morbidelli. We had good evidence for that,” Zarco said on Thursday after reporting to the stewards.

“In my opinion there should be no penalties, because I didn’t do anything crazy. I told the race management that too. I think they understood me because they didn’t really answer and agreed with me.”

Morbidelli pleaded with the stewards for a punishment from Zarco and that is why. Both drivers are in the middle bracket this MotoGP season. Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo leads after four of the fourteen races.
