Why Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore misses practice

Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore hasn’t been on the training ground since last Wednesday, which has raised some questions as to why.

Last week, Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reported that he was dealing with a personal matter, but there were no further details.

When Gilmore’s absence continued this week, some have speculated that he could potentially hold out.

Appearing on Ordway, Merloni & Fauria Monday, Bill Belichick was directly asked if Gilmore is holding on?

“He’s excused,” Belichick said.

Almost at the same time, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston reported that Gilmore tended to take on a personal matter, but returned to the area and once he got through the necessary steps related to COVID, he can come back.

This goes hand in hand with what Belichick told the OMF.

“There are certain protocols that we have had to face. When he can come back, he will come back,” he said.

The Patriots will be training for the next few days, so the potential for Gilmore’s comeback is there. In his absence, JC Jackson got the number 1 corner rep.
