Webb Simpson, who finished third in the FedEx Cup rankings, retired from the BMW championship this week.
“After playing consecutive weeks, Webb is taking a week off to rest for the Atlanta TOUR championship,” a Simpson rep said Tuesday.
The field for this week’s playoff event is now at 69.
Last week Simpson was in sixth place with Jon Rahm at The Northern Trust, finishing with an overall score of 16-under 268 – 14 strokes behind runaway winner Dustin Johnson.
