An attorney representing a woman who claimed former NFL star Warren Sapp penetrated her at a Super Bowl party for ESPN has received an order to pay legal fees from Sapp.
“It was a bulls business!” Sapp told Page Six exclusively. “They tried to extort me from paying for some things I didn’t do!”
“Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” actress Paula Trickey sued Sapp, claiming the player-turned-broadcaster walked through the crowded Arizona night in 2015 and hit her, causing her injuries. She was arrested that night for DUI. Football Hall of Fame member Andre Reed initially signed an affidavit claiming he witnessed Sapp’s strike against Trickey, but later recanted in a subsequent deposition, the record shows.
Sapp countered in court documents that he had never attended the ESPN party and that he was photographed and paid to attend an NFL alumni party with rapper Pitbull.
On August 3, Judge David Haimes ruled that Trickey’s attorney John Phillips “had not provided any evidence to support” the case and should have withdrawn his allegations. The court ordered him to pay “reasonable attorney fees” for Sapp. We are told that the costs could be as high as $ 100,000, but in the end the court will decide what is reasonable.
Phillips – who is currently joining the family of Don Lewis, the late husband of Carole Baskin who has disappeared – has appealed. “It was a legally unfair and insufficient decision, which will be overturned on appeal,” he told us. He also “repeatedly asked the judge to recuse himself”.
But Sapp was still ecstatic. “Game over for the other side, it’s BABY SANCTION time !!” he told us. “I tried all I could to show that they didn’t have the right person! Nobody really believed me… I wasn’t in two places at the same time!
Sapp’s lawyer Ricky Patel of Farrell, Patel, Jomarron & Lopez told us, “We don’t believe in just winning a case, but believe in sending a message to those who wish to act inappropriately. We will not only beat the opposition, we will destroy them! “
