So for this amazingly fast lap we don’t even drive a Formula 1 car, but a converted Porsche LMP1 car. After parting from the WEC, Porsche wondered what could be possible without the restrictions of the WEC regulations. The result was the 919 Evo that smashed lap records all over the world. At Spa-Francorchamps they drove a 1.41.770, faster than an F1 car had ever gone.
However, Formula 1 still put things in order in the qualifying that same year. Hamilton, Vettel and Raikkonen were the only three drivers to dive in the 1.41.5. Of course that does not detract from Porsche’s lap, which can be seen in the video below.
