“Vettel and Ferrari should now separate immediately”

Sebastian Vettell and Ferrari should split up immediately. That argues former Ferrari driver and F1 legend Gerhard Berger. On Sunday the tension between Vettel and the red team rose again.

“You know you messed up,” the four-time world champion said on the radio during the race in Silverstone. He was referring to Ferrari’s decision to strategically plan Vettel so that he wouldn’t get in Charles Leclerc’s way.

“We didn’t have the courage to let Charles catch up with me, even though he had a different strategy,” Vettel told reporters afterwards. “They preferred to call me into the pits to get around the whole lot, but I could have done at least ten or more laps. The strategy was ruined.” Before the race, we talked about that exact situation – to not to – and then we did. There was simply no reason for the pit stop, ”he added.

However, Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto said Vettel had been struggling with his car at Silverstone for the past two weekends and “his spin didn’t help him” on Sunday.

“Overall it was the right choice for the team and we feel we didn’t punish Sebastian with that. His race was disrupted by his spin – that was key. Not our strategy. Sebastian has had a hard time, but the Charles performance was commendable. This is a young guy Ferrari has invested in and we have a further agreement with him, “the Italian continued.

“I think he (Leclerc) is driving really well, and that is worth underlining,” said Binotto.

Binotto’s statements show that the relationship between Ferrari and Vettel is not too good. “Seb’s radio report shows just how tense the situation is,” said 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg. “But he has to keep fighting, also as a signal to his possible future team. He has to bang his fist on the table at Ferrari and ask for a new car.”

Gerhard Berger thinks the situation is untenable and that Vettel and Ferrari should not wait until the end of the season to part ways.

“For the vote in the respective teams, it would be best to switch to the 2021 lineup now,” the Austrian told Sport1.
