Rik Verbrugghe was already absent on Monday during the time trials at the European Cycling Championships in Plouay. He had been in contact with people outside the bubble and stayed in the hotel as a precaution.
Verbrugghe also underwent a corona test, but the cycling association did not wait for the result. “Verbrugghe and the union have agreed not to take any health risks. That is why he has returned home.”
Sven Vanthourenhout, Verbrugghe’s assistant on the road, will lead the Belgian teams in the coming days.
