Trump defends rally at Bedminster golf club as ‘peaceful protest’

President Trump defended a gathering of members of his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey as a “peaceful protest” against the media.

“To me they look more or less like everyone has, pretty much everyone is wearing masks,” said Trump, who said the Friday rally did not violate Garden State’s social distancing regulations.

“You know you have an exclusion from the law. It says peaceful protest or political activity, right? ” He added.

“I call it peaceful protest because they heard you were coming and they know the news is fake, they know it better than anyone else,” Trump continued.

Trump’s mockery was provoked after a reporter called the president for claiming that the COVID-19 pandemic was “disappearing,” even as 6,000 Americans died from the virus this week.

The question sparked a series of boos from Trump’s friendly public.

“If the press in this country were honest and not corrupt and false, our country would be far ahead,” Trump said.

So far, the United States has reported over 5 million coronavirus cases, with over 164,000 deaths.
