the prefecture cancels the anti-PSG decree in Marseille

Faced with the “misunderstanding” aroused, the Bouches-du-Rhône police headquarters on Friday repealed the decree taken the day before prohibiting the wearing of the Paris SG jersey in Marseille on the day of its Champions League final, Sunday. The authorities feared incidents due to the football rivalry between PSG and Olympique Marseille.

PSG supporters in Marseille will finally be able to wear their team colors on Sunday 23 August in the Champions League final between the Parisian club and Bayern Munich.

However, the prefecture “urges Parisian supporters who will attend retransmissions of the final in Marseille not to wear ostentatious signs in the public space and to show moderation in their possible celebrations so as not to be taken to task. “.

Earlier in the morning, it was announced that Sunday, between 3 p.m. and 3 a.m., the “presence of PSG supporters or people presenting themselves as such and behaving as such” is prohibited around the Old Port, where many bars broadcast matches, for safety reasons.

“Strong animosity of some Marseillais”

The decree, now repealed, was taken after incidents that punctuated the broadcast of the semi-final match on Tuesday evening.

The text of the prefect of police argues in particular “that there is a strong animosity on the part of some Marseillais, supporters or not, towards the PSG team, in contradiction with any sporting spirit”.

Tuesday evening, according to the police headquarters, gatherings of more than 250 people took place in Marseille, giving rise to two attacks on people wearing a Parisian club jersey, and “attempts at intimidation aimed at interrupting the retransmission of the match”.

In Paris, the final will be broadcast on giant screens at the Parc des Princes in front of 5,000 supporters, the maximum level imposed by the government. But there will be no “fan zones” in the French capital, AFP learned from a police source on Thursday.
