Tennis dominates the list of highest paid athletes

Magazine Forbes published this week his list of ten highest paid athletes 2020, with absolute dominance of tennis players. The top nine positions are held by women on the WTA circuit, with Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams in the lead and exchanging positions with respect to 2019.

The 22-year-old Japanese has ousted the great American champion this year, with total earnings of $ 37.4 million. Of these, 34 come from sponsorships, which Forbes highlights have increased due to the proximity of the Olympic Games, although these have had to be postponed to 2021 due to covid-19. Williams, for his part, is left with some not inconsiderable 36 million, of which 32 are for sponsorships.

The Top 3 closes it Ashleigh Barty, a 24-year-old Australian tennis player who currently ranks first in the WTA world rankings. Your earnings stay in 13.1 million dollars, and in his case, the majority (10.1) come from his sporting achievements, among which is the victory in the world finals last November.

To find someone outside of tennis you have to go to the tenth place on the list, with soccer player Alex Morgan. The American won 4.6 million dollars in a year in which you have had your first child. Forbes points out that despite having been without playing for a while due to her pregnancy, the world champion was able to secure a sponsorship from Nike for 18 months after the 2019 World Cup.
