Source – Dolphins swap Raekwon McMillan, pick Raiders for round four

The Miami Dolphins traded linebacker Raekwon McMillan and a 2021 fifth-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for a 2021 fourth-round pick, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The net win for the Dolphins is a Day 3 pick trade as the Raiders get a linebacker who can compete for playing time in a group of positions they need a bit of depth in.

McMillan, who started 28 games with the Dolphins in the past two seasons, fell into the team’s depth chart after the offseason additions of Elandon Roberts and Kamu Grugier-Hill. He also didn’t seem to match what the Dolphins wanted to do in their new defense and that was reflected in his playing time during training camp. He was firmly on the list bubble and a candidate for release on reduction day.

In McMillan’s absence, Dolphins linebackers Roberts, Grugier-Hill, Kyle Van Noy and Sam Eguavoen should all see an increased role in defense and special teams going forward.

McMillan, a 2017 second-round pick from Ohio State, is entering the final year of his contract. He has 177 tackles, eight tackles for the loss and two forced fumbles.
