Phoenix Suns planned to prosecute Davis Bertans in free will

The Phoenix Suns are reportedly interested in signing Davis Bertans on free agency this offseason.

Of all the teams in the NBA, the Phoenix Suns will have the extra 7th place this offseason. A rumor already says they’re looking for Fred VanVleet, and now NBC’s Chase Hughes reports that the Suns are among four teams that should target Davis Bertans in free agency.

Teams joining the Suns with interest in Bertans include the Atlanta Hawks, the New York Knicks (whose new management seems interested to anyone and everyone) and, of course, Bertans’ current team, the Washington Wizards, who allegedly they are making their new signing top priority.

Would Bertans be a good fit for the Phoenix Suns?

During the hiatus, we called Bertans as a potential target for the Suns, and now NBC has confirmed that. Bertans is a powerful forward who has set career numbers in Washington this season in points (15.4), rebounds (4.5) and 3 scored (3.7).

In December, Athletic reported that Bertans was in line to earn somewhere between $ 15 and $ 20 million per season with his next contract. The salary cap for next season is constantly changing at the moment, but don’t expect its value to drop much more.

So, should the Phoenix Suns go after him?

It’s hard to say. In theory, Cameron Johnson played the same role in the bubble that they would expect Bertans to play if they signed it. In this bubble (where Davis Bertans chose to stay out), Johnson scored 13.3 points, took 5.9 rebounds and made 2.1 shots from behind the arc per game.

It’s not that bad for someone who isn’t used to playing the 4, and not too far from what the Suns would be willing to pay someone else around $ 15 million to provide.

Of course, if they signed Bertans, they would have two solid players, not just one, so maybe doubling down on this type of player is how they want to fill their roster.

Either way, it will be interesting to see how Sarver chooses to spend (or save) his money in the off-season during these tumultuous times. For now, though, the Phoenix Suns are rumored to be interested. We’ll see what happens.
