Olympique shocks City and reaches the UEFA Champions League 1/2 final

Olympique beat City 3: 1 (1: 0) in Lisbon.

The German club will face German champion Munich “Bayern” in the semi-finals, which hit “Barcelona” 8: 2 the day before.

The Lyon team took the lead in the 24th minute when Maxwell Cornley turned his partner’s miss into an attack into the goal. The footballer was the first to hit the ball with the opponent’s defender and from the far distance made a long shot in the lower left corner.

In the last six minutes of the first half, “City” players Kevin de Brujne and Rahim Sterling got into dangerous positions, but the efforts of both footballers did not bear fruit.

City were able to mount several counterattacks, such as the impressive one after 69 minutes, but de Brujne lofted a free kick over the crossbar. The Lions did not hesitate for a long time and after ten minutes Musa Dembelē received a pass from the City’s defenders in the center of the field and went alone to the goal, where Ederson could have passed the ball.

Eight minutes later, Dembele was the first in the penalty area to hit Ederson and easily scored his second goal in this duel.

Significantly, Dembele had only spent four minutes on the field before the first goal.

For the Lyon team, this will be only the second semi-final in the UEFA Champions League history. For the last time, the same stage of the tournament was reached in the 2009/10 season. Also this year, Bayern faced in the semifinals, winning 4: 0.

This is the first time in the history of the tournament that there are two French championship teams in the semi-finals, but neither England nor Spain.

Olympique has taken many surprises in the UEFA Champions League this season, as the Italian champion “Juventus” of Turin was defeated in the sum of two matches in the eighth final. There was a 2-2 draw in the series, but the Lions went further thanks to more goals scored by the guests.

In the second semi-final pair, the Sain-Germain (PSG) in Paris will meet with the German Bundesliga team Leipzig.

The semi-finals in Lisbon are scheduled for August 18 and 19, and the final – on August 23.

The final was originally scheduled to take place in Istanbul, but the Turkish city has been awarded the title match for next season. In mid-June, UEFA decided that the winner of the Champions League would be determined in the final tournament in Lisbon.

Last year, in the final of the UEFA Champions League in a duel between two English clubs in Madrid, Liverpool won Tothenburg’s Hotspur 2-0.
