Paul Crawley unleashed society’s “dobbers” in an epic spray on NRL 360, saying the way people try to catch others is “embarrassing”.
“With all that is happening right now with all the COVID violations and the COVID police in society, how we see it as journalists, how social media see it … we have become a nation of fools – we have it really – and from hypocrites, ”Crawley said on Tuesday.
“The way we prevail in the rugby league is alive in the moment and we’re trying to catch people. I just find it embarrassing.
“All the people who built this country and built our game the way it is today would turn around in their graves and watch us dine on other people’s misfortunes.”

It comes on the back of Wayne Bennett, South Sydney coach, Paul Vaughan of Dragons, and Tevita Pangai Jnr of Broncos, all of whom broke the NRL’s strict biosafety protocols last week.
Bennett was fined $ 20,000 and Vaughan was fined $ 10.00. Both have a mandatory 14-day isolation period. Pangai Jnr has yet to be officially sanctioned, but the 24-year-old is set to be fired from the Broncos and fined around the $ 40,000 mark.
While Crawley insisted he not defend the rule violations, he suggested that Bennett and Pangai Jnr’s punishment could be more severe.
“Bennett faces a $ 20,000 fine and a two-week suspension. We are sitting here last night and discussing whether that is enough. What do we want? A public stoning?
“I’m not saying what he did was right. What Wayne did was wrong. I told him what he did was wrong. There’s no way to defend it, but I think $ 20,000 and a two-week suspension means it was serious business.
“Pangai has just been fired because he wanted to support a partner. He turned a blue, but is it a dismissed offense? “
fellow Daily telegraph Journalist Paul Kent was quick to point out that Bennett’s fine was the equivalent of a week’s wages, thanks to many regular members of society when they were fined $ 1,000 for violating the government’s COVID-19 rules.
