LA Clippers striker Montrezl Harrell is expected to clear quarantine on Monday and can be activated for Game 1 against the Dallas Mavericks, sources told ESPN.
Harrell returned to the NBA bubble late Sunday evening and was placed in seven-day quarantine, according to sources. The Clippers’ sixth man of the year nominee left Orlando on July 17 to attend to a family emergency. She posted on her social media accounts that her grandmother passed away.
Harrell hasn’t played in any of the Clippers’ eight seeding games and will be thrown straight into the playoffs. The Clippers’ first round series against Dallas begins on Monday.
When asked Friday if the Clippers were sure when Harrell will be available to return from quarantine, head coach Doc Rivers said “it’s not ideal”.
“No,” he replied before the Clippers took on Oklahoma City. “We have an idea. But it’s not ideal, let’s put it this way.”
Rivers said he will simply have to incorporate Harrell into a playoff match, likely with no training time.
“You know, I throw him in there, as you know, he earned this right,” Rivers said. “The challenge will be just how ready he is. I don’t know if I’ve ever had a guy who hasn’t played in eight games or anything and hasn’t practiced and we’ll knock him out. On the floor in a playoff game. Hopefully at this point.” .
“There is no guarantee that it will happen, so we’ll see.”
