Meet the NFL’s No.3 quarterbacks, who play a different role in 2020 – the Athletic

August is the month to be a No.3 quarterback. For many, it’s the one time of year they get noticed. As the starters sit down the preseason becomes more common, the third limits are in the limelight.

This year, it’s out the window. We won’t be spending the last Thursday before Labor Day watching the Alex Tanney and Tyler Bray of the world end preseason football.

The reason for the pre-season cancellation, however, is what brought a new appreciation for Quarterbacks No.3 – a pandemic.

Bruce Arians suggested in June the possibility of quarantining a third quarterback. Bill O’Brien has the Texans’ No.3 quarterback at the facility on a completely different schedule than Deshaun Watson and AJ McCarron.
