Ruud Gullit has told Manchester United to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano following his recent performances with the Bundesliga.
The French defender drew attention in Leipzig’s midweek victory over Atletico Madrid as he secured a spot in the Champions League semi-finals in Lisbon.
Widely considered one of the best young defenders in world football, Upamecano has been linked to the move to Arsenal, but their lack of Champions League could prove to be a major obstacle.
United don’t have this problem due to third place in the Premier League and Gullit believes Upamecano is a player that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should pursue.
“What was the first thing Klopp did with Liverpool? He bought a good defense. He bought a goalkeeper and good defenders because it all starts there,” said Gullit Playing sports.
“And I think Man United should start from there too. I saw something amazing with Leipzig and Dayot Upamecano. It was exceptional [against Atletico Madrid].
“He can play football, he’s tough in tackling. Defense is where I’d start if I were Man United.”
Men understand United are not prioritizing a central defensive addition during this summer’s transfer window.
