Manchester United goalkeeper Kovar has signed a seasonal loan

SWINDON Town have secured the services of young Manchester United goalkeeper Matej Kovar with a seasonal loan.

The 20-year-old Czech yesterday put pen to paper and left Old Trafford in an attempt to gain first-team experience.

It fills the void left by the exit of Steven Benda, who returned to Swansea City at the end of the season after helping Town win the Sky Bet League Two title.

Kovar said: “First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the nice welcome, even on the training ground. Everyone has been brilliant with me since I arrived.”

“It was the right time to come here and gain experience in men’s football. I am really happy that the club came to me and gave me this opportunity.”

“The gaffer talked to me in a pre-season match at Manchester United training and he’s a really positive guy, he said he wants to play football and that’s what I’m looking for.”

The Czech Republic youth international joined United from FC Slovacko in the summer 2018 transfer window, the same as Alexis Sanchez, and made his Under 23 debut at Old Trafford in a draw with Everton.

And after training with the first team during the 2019/20 season, he was an unused substitute during United’s 2-1 away defeat to FC Astana in the Europa Leauge group stage.

He will make his professional debut with Swindon in League One.
