Manchester United enter the race for RB Salzburg star Patson Daka and other transfer rumors

Manchester United have joined the race to sign Red Bull Salzburg star Patson Daka – reportedly.

United have yet to sign in the transfer window and have been regularly linked with a move for a new striker.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made Anthony Martial his first pick forward with Odion Ighalo extending his loan until January 2021 to provide coverage. Mason Greenwood can also operate from center despite the majority of his playing time coming from the wing.

However, The Sun reports that United are interested in signing Daka this summer in the wake of his outstanding season in Austria.

The 21-year-old performed admirably after Erling Haaland’s departure for Borussia Dortmund, scoring 24 goals in 31 Austrian Bundesliga appearances and recording eight assists.

Daka is reportedly sought after by United and a number of other top European clubs due to his form, but would cost more than £ 20m as he signed a new contract last year that runs until 2024.

MEN Sport understands that Jadon Sancho remains the priority for United in the transfer window, but has not yet reached a turning point in the negotiations.

Elsewhere, reports say United have joined the race to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.

The Spaniard will leave the German team after winning the Champions League in search of a new challenge, just one year after the end of his current contract.

Thiago has been heavily linked to the move to Liverpool, but reports in England say their interest isn’t as concrete as German outlets suggest.

Now, United have been linked to the 29-year-old Norwegian journalist Fredrik Diltvedt stating that the Reds are interested in the former Barcelona midfielder and Donny van de Beek.

MEN Sport understands that United are monitoring Van de Beek but does not see Thiago as a priority target. It is worth taking the news of interest to the Bayern star with a pinch of salt as the Bundesliga would rather have more clubs in the race to sign him to raise his price. United’s name is regularly linked to players to expedite their eventual transfer elsewhere.
