Sevilla star Joan Jordan provoked Paul Pogba ahead of the Europa League semi-final by insisting that the Manchester United midfielder is no better than some of the players his team faces in La Liga.

French World Cup winner Pogba hopes to sack Manchester United for a second Europa League title this week, having helped Jose Mourinho’s side win the competition three years ago.

The charge of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who finished third in the Premier League this season, will face Sevilla in the semi-finals on Sunday.

Sevilla eliminated the wolves from the competition in the quarterfinals and are hoping to enjoy another victory over a Premier League club this weekend.

Before the match, Spanish midfielder Jordan backed Sevilla to show his class against Manchester United and aimed a subtle shot at Red Devils star Pogba.

He wrote in a column for MailSport: ‘Paul Pogba is a great player, one of the most important in Europe.

‘But there are many great players in the Spanish league who meet this standard. We don’t think about it.

“If we thought Pogba was going to be a problem, our priority had to be to focus on ourselves, individually and collectively, and compete to the max.”

Jordan added: ‘Anyone who is passionate about football knows what this competition means for Sevilla, our history and five wins, but there is no extra pressure.

‘We are ambitious and are looking forward to the game. So far we have had a good season putting all our efforts into this competition and it is going well.

‘So Sunday is just another step towards the final. We don’t think about whether we are favorites or not, it doesn’t mean much.

‘Manchester United have their goals, but we are a club in incredible condition. I trust the team and our ability to move forward.

‘This and the Wolves game will be different in terms of level. United have players with different ways of performing. ‘
