In the bickering at FC Barcelona, the president seems to be the bad guy. But what is Lionel Messi’s guilt? With the termination and his behavior, the soccer star damages his reputation, which he has earned on the lawn.
Dhe love of soccer fans for their stars knows no bounds. Everyone loves Leo Messi, in Barcelona, in Spain, all over the world. So it seems only logical that in the quarrel about the future of FC Barcelona and the Messis, club president Josep Maria Bartomeu is now slipping the role of the bad boy. The self-dismantling that the great professional footballer is currently doing remains underexposed.
Because there is no other way of describing what Messi did by faxing his termination. The trigger for his escape are not, as was the case with Spain’s old king Juan Carlos, judicial investigations into tax evasion – for which Messi was convicted in 2017 – but the sporting development of the club. But as with Juan Carlos, the public doesn’t actually know anything about Messi other than that he’s leaving. He didn’t say where to or why, not a word to his fans. Instead, he sets up an ugly argument in the courts about the terms of his departure. Messi is damaging the reputation he has built on the lawn.
